There has never been a back-to-school season like this one. Schools across the country—from small, private elementary schools to large, public universities—grappled with how to open. There’s no “pandemic playbook,” after all. As plans unfolded, teachers stepped up, ready to educate students, whether their schools opened remotely, in person, or with a hybrid format somewhere in between.

Now, more than ever before, we have so much to learn from teachers. Those working from home had to start from scratch and figure out how to effectively teach students remotely. Longstanding lesson plans had to be revised. “Classroom space” had to be carved out at home. Equipment had to be set up. Talk about a lesson in adapting to circumstances!

Teachers going to their schools to teach in person might be uncomfortable, afraid of getting sick. They must constantly take measures to keep themselves and their students safe. These days, in addition to clearly conveying the curriculum, teachers must ensure that students keep their masks on and remain at least six feet apart from one another. They must learn the names of students whose faces are blocked by masks while struggling to be understood through their own mask.

Last year, being a teacher was just being a teacher. This year, being a teacher is being a teacher, a medical professional, a therapist, and a juggler extraordinaire.

If you’re a teacher, thank you! These unfamiliar routines and long days can be draining, so be sure to take steps to minimize stress. Consider these options:

Answer emails once or twice a day. Checking your inbox all day long can make you crazy. Looking less often can save time and reduce stress.

Schedule “me time.” Set aside time throughout the week to do yoga, go for a run, take a long bath, sit outside with a cup of tea, or listen to your favorite music. Whatever helps you unwind, do it!

Give yourself credit. These are unusual times. With all the unknowns and unexpected challenges you’re sure to face as the school year unfolds, you’re stepping up to handle them. You’re still teaching, and the students are still learning.

Several months ago, California saw severe fires that spanned hundreds of thousands of acres and caused thousands of people to evacuate their homes. Locals didn’t know what to expect in the coming days, but they knew that firefighters would face the blazes until they were put out. Actor John Cena was so appreciative of the first responders that he donated $500,000 to firefighter organizations in their honor.

There are approximately 1.1 million firefighters in the United States. These professional and volunteer men and women bravely put themselves in harm’s way every time they respond to a call. That’s why we appreciate them, too. We also appreciate the 262,000+ paramedics in the U.S. who show up to treat people requiring urgent medical care.

Corexcel is the IACET Provider of the Day!

IACET is the acronym for the International Accreditors for Continuing Education and Training. Corexcel has been accredited as an IACET provider since 2005. Providers are authorized to issue Continuing Education Units (CEUs) to students who successfully complete their courses. At Corexcel, we are committed to high-quality, standards-based instructional design.

Learn more about accredited providers from the IACET website. IACET is the organization responsible for developing the original CEU. They ensure that continuing education providers deliver high-quality instruction by following the ANSI/IACET Standard for Continuing Education and Training. Participants who complete online courses offered by Corexcel typically receive continuing education credit in the form of Contact Hours, CEUs, PDUs or several others.

Many of our online courses such as Medical Terminology, Anatomy & Physiology and Medical Coding require JavaScript to be enabled to access all of the intended functionality. The instructions below describe how to enable JavaScript in a variety of web browsers.

Enable JavaScript – Google Chrome

• Click the Menu in the upper-right corner (3 vertical dots) and choose Settings
• Towards the bottom of the page click the word Advanced to expand the settings list
• At the bottom of the Privacy & Security section click on Content Settings
• Click the section titled JavaScript
• If it says Blocked move the slider on the right so that it says Allowed (recommended)

Enable JavaScript – Mozilla Firefox

Starting with Firefox 23 the option to disable JavaScript was moved from the Options window. Follow the instructions below to enable JavaScript.

• In the address bar type about:config and hit Enter
• If a screen that says something like This might void your warranty displays, click the I accept the risk! button
• In the search bar type javascript.enabled
• If it has a value of True, you don’t have to do anything
• If it has a value of False, double click anywhere in the highlighted section to change the value to True
• Close the about:config window as JavaScript is now enabled for Firefox

Enable JavaScript – Internet Explorer

• Open the Tools menu (in IE version 9+ the tools menu is a gear icon in the upper-right corner of the browser)
• Select Internet Options
• Go to the Security tab and click the Custom Level button
• Scroll down the list to find the Active Scripting heading (directly under the Scripting heading)
• Make sure Enable is selected
• Click the OK button to close that window
• Towards the bottom of the Security Settings window, click the Apply button
• Close the Internet Options window by clicking the OK button

Enable JavaScript – Microsoft Edge

JavaScript is supported in the Microsoft Edge web browser. However, it might have been disabled in your browser by an administrative setting. If you encounter a JavaScript error in Edge:

• Click the Menu in the upper-right corner (3 vertical dots) and choose Settings
• On the More menu (3 horizontal dots), select Settings.
• Select Cookies and site permissions.
• Select JavaScript to check if Allowed (recommended) is turned on.

Enable JavaScript – Apple Safari

• On a Windows computer, press [CTRL] and [,] at the same time to open Preferences
• On a Mac computer, press [Command] and [,] at the same time to open Preferences
• Click the Security tab
• Under Web content make sure Enable JavaScript is checked (Java and JavaScript are not the same)
• Close the Preferences window because you are finished!

Enable JavaScript – Safari on iOS (iPad, iPhone)

• Open Settings
• Scroll down the list and choose Safari
• Towards the bottom of the Safari settings select Advanced
• Make sure JavaScript is turned on

Enable JavaScript – Android

These steps are for Microsoft Edge for Android; they may vary slightly if you have a different browser installed.

• Open the Edge app
• Tap the three dots in the lower right corner
• Go to Settings
• Go to Site Permissions
• Go to JavaScript
• Ensure JavaScript is allowed

Enable JavaScript – Chrome for Android

• Open the Chrome app
• Tap the three dots in the upper right corner
• Go to Settings
• Go to Site Settings
• Go to JavaScript
• Ensure JavaScript is allowed

While there are many other browsers and operating systems available, unfortunately we cannot support them all. In this post, we’ve done our best to cover the most widely used browsers and devices. Browsers not listed here are not recommended for use with Corexcel’s online courses. Check the system requirements for the course you would like to take.
